Oh... the skeletons that may fall out when digging through the family tree closet... The following newspaper articles from August of 1920 in Maysville, Kentucky and West Union, Ohio tell the story of when my paternal great grandmother, Glada Blanche (Newman) Rankin shot and killed her father, Lafayette "Lafe" Newman in self-defense...

Notice The Public Ledger (Maysville, Ky) articles tried to protect Blanche's identity while The People's Defender (West Union, Oh) article gave the full story, including Blanche's true identity.

Continuing on with the Rankin Family Genealogy and Heirloom Book project, the following pages show the early life of my paternal great grandfather, Milton Vee Rankin.. I've included his birth and marriage record. The birth record was found on Familysearch.org and the marriage record was donated by my father's cousin Lynda.

As the Rankin Family Genealogy and Heirloom book project gets underway I have been seeking family tree and heritage layouts to illustrate my paternal history.

I am currently undecided whether or not to leave the tags with unknown relatives names blank or to write "unknown" in them.

Rankin Family Gathering 1975

The following double layout will be featured in the non-profit Rankin Family (heirloom and genealogy) book.

In April of 1975 my parents Butch and Carmen visited with family. Pictured on the left side of the page are myself (Tamie), my sister (Tina) with our cousins Tracy, Hoyt and Dorothy.

On the right side of page is my paternal grandmother, Effie Jean "Jeannie" Moore Rankin with my father standing to her left and my Uncle Roy to her right. The photo below it features my parents with Aunt Theresa and Uncle Roy.
